Meriden Pride Community Center
Meriden Pride Fest is BACK!
Join us on Saturday, August 15, from 12–5 p.m. at the Meriden Pride Center for a day of live entertainment, local vendors, delicious food, community resources, and family-friendly fun.
Our theme is “Celebrating 250 Years of Queer History.” From the revolution to today’s movement for equality, queer history has always been American history. This year, we’re proud to celebrate it right here in our own community.
With Pride,

Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week

February 16-22 was Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week.
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (ASAW) recognizes those who experience little to no romantic attraction. By celebrating the "aro" community, we challenge amatonormativity—the societal pressure to prioritize romantic relationships above all others. Whether through deep platonic bonds or queerplatonic partnerships, aromantic individuals remind us that a fulfilling life isn't defined by romance, but by the meaningful connections we choose.
Visibility matters. Few have championed this better than Alice Oseman, the award-winning author of Heartstopper (which we have at the Meriden Pride Center’s library!). Oseman, who identifies as aromantic and asexual, uses her platform to create authentic representation, most notably through the character Isaac Henderson. Her work offers a mirror for those who have long felt sidelined by traditional love stories, proving that "happily ever after" looks different for everyone.
Resources to learn more:
AUREA: The Aromantic-spectrum Union for Recognition, Education, and Advocacy.

The Trevor Project: A helpful guide on understanding aromantic identities.
Did you know? In a Trevor Project study of over 40,000 LGBTQ+ young people, 10% identified as asexual or ace spectrum.
